Auckland moves between water and stillness. Harbour traffic and wharf-side motion give way, just streets inland, to the quiet of Albert Park and the calm of the Art Gallery grounds — a city that holds both energy and stillness within a few minutes’ walk.
Filmed across Auckland’s waterfront precinct, this cinematic portrait opens on the Viaduct Harbour before moving through Silo Park’s industrial-meets-maritime textures, along Princess and Queens Wharves, and into the green stillness of Albert Park. The Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki sits beside the park — New Zealand’s largest art institution, housed in a building that carries both reo Māori and English in its official name, recognising the founding cultures of Aotearoa. Freyberg Square offers a final quieter counterpoint before the film closes.
This is the opening chapter of a much longer journey — the first film shot before a 35-night Pacific crossing through Fiji, Samoa, Hawaii, and French Polynesia, followed by a 13-night self-drive through New Zealand’s South Island. Auckland felt like the right place to begin: a city where the harbour never quite lets you forget you’re about to leave it.
